Eating Disorder Therapy & Counselling - Northern Rivers NSW & Online

If you struggle with your relationship with food or body image, help is available.

Whether it's strict food rules and feeling out of control around food, restrict and binge cycles that feel hard to break, or body image thoughts that take up too much space in your life - these struggles are real and change is possible.

Reach out for a conversation about how I can support.
Who I work with

I provide eating disorder therapy for adolescents (13+) and adults, in person in Byron Bay and Bangalow, or online anywhere in NSW.

I support people across a full range of presentations - from acute anorexia and bulimia, through to binge eating disorder, and disordered eating that hasn't been formally diagnosed but is still affecting your life.

My credentials

I'm an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AASW) and a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician with the Australia & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED) - a credential recognising additional training and experience in eating disorder treatment.

My approach

I am trained in Focal Psychodynamic Therapy - which is an evidenced based treatment modality for Anorexia Nervosa. I also draw on narrative therapy frameworks. Sessions are collaborative, and focused on who you are outside of the eating disorder, not just the disorder itself. My approach is non-pathologising: I won't reduce you to a diagnosis, and I take into consideration the relational and systemic factors - family, culture, identity, past experiences - that shape your relationship with food and body. Where useful, I work alongside GPs, dietitians, or other treating practitioners to support coordinated, safe care.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?
No - you can start seeing me privately at any time, without a diagnosis or referral. A diagnosis is only needed if you want to access a Medicare rebate through an Eating Disorder Plan or Mental Health Care Plan, which your GP can talk you through.
What if I don't think it's "serious enough" to need help?
It's incredibly common to feel this way, and early intervention is so much more effective than waiting to see if things get worse. Struggles with food and body image don't need to reach a crisis point to be worth talking about - and if these problems are already impacting in your life in ways that you want to change, we can address that. Again, talking to your GP can be a good first step.
IS BINGE EATING DISORDER TAKEN AS SERIOUSLY AS ANOREXIA OR BULIMIA?
It should be, and I take it seriously - binge eating disorder is a genuine, common eating disorder, not a lesser concern. It's often under-recognised, particularly in adults who may have lived with it for years without seeking support.
